NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

In the Museum of Natural History inside Bourazani Environmental Park are provided in photographic display all species of Plants, Orchids, Butterflies, Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds, Dragonflies and Orthoptera of “Bourazani” area. You will also observe all kinds of fish that exist in the river Aoos.

The flora of the area is characterized by an extremely large wealth of orchids, which correspond to 15% (51 plant taxa of the Orchidaceae Family) of the total number of 340 species of flora in the area. This is, as far as is known, the largest number of orchids ever recorded in a relatively small area of 10,000 hectares.

A total of 347 species of plants and trees, 51 species of wild orchids, (the largest number, as far as is known, that has ever been observed in Europe, in such a small area (10,000 acres), 113 species of butterflies out of 232 in Greece and 430 in Europe, wild tulips, 172 species of birds, rare small owls, 17 species of reptiles, 22 species of dragonfly (with the largest dragonfly in Europe), 12 species of fish in the emerald waters of the Aoos River.

In the “Environmental Park Bourazani” and the “Museum of Natural History Burazani” can be implemented the following programs for educational purposes

  • Flora and fauna of the area – Area with unique Biodiversity – Visit to the Natural History Museum
  • Environment/Forest Ecosystems/Soil-Erosion.
  • Vikos – Aoos National Park, protected area of ​​Grammos – Konitsa – Pogoni under establishment of Management and Protection of Environmental Resources.
  • The use of water in the operating watermill of Bourazani and the surrounding area/Water (river) Ecosystems
  • Byzantine monuments in Molyvdoskepasti/Byzantine Architecture
  • Anthropogenic environment (measures to prevent impacts from urban ecosystems – built environment).
  • Rural areas (Organic crops).
  • Traditional arts (Organic products – tsipouro distillation – traditional professions/woodcarvers – local sweets)
